Q: How can I make a monetary donation to support Islesboro Health Center?
A: Islesboro Health Center welcomes monetary donations to support our facilities, services, and personnel. To make a general donation, please contact Janet Anderson at manager@townofislesboro.com or Brian Bohanon at treasurer@townofislesboro.com. If you would like to make an earmarked donation for a specific piece of equipment or to support a specific staff position in our clinic, please contact our medical director at chris@islesborohealthcenter.com to discuss our current needs and wishlist.
Q: Can I donate old medications to Islesboro Health Center?
A: No, current pharmacy regulations and best practices prohibit us from accepting donations of old medications, even if they are still in-date. Islesboro Health Center is currently not able to accept old or expired medications for destruction. Postage prepaid pouches are available free of charge at the front office of the Health Center for patients to directly mail unwanted or expired medications to Stericycle for secure and environmentally responsible destruction.
Q: Can I donate old medical supplies or equipment to Islesboro Health Center?
A: In some cases, Islesboro Health Center may be able to accept donations of medical equipment. Because we have limited storage and cannot accommodate surplus inventory at this time, we cannot accept all items. If you would like to make a donation of medical equipment, please contact our medical director at chris@islesborohealthcenter.com to discuss if it is an item that we are able to use and have space to accept. Regretfully, we are unable to accept the following items:
Items that are contaminated with bodily fluids
Sterile or single use items with open packaging
Items used for medical procedures/services that the Health Center does not offer
Items that are past or very near their expiration date
Items with specific storage requirements (i.e. refrigerated or frozen)
Items that are not in good working order
Items for which we already have surplus inventory
Medications/pharmaceuticals of any kind
Outdated equipment that is no longer supported by the manufacturer for service or spare parts
Islesboro Health Center does work with Partners for World Health to find good homes in medically underserved countries for used medical equipment that is not suitable for our facility. If you have medical equipment you would like to donate, you can contact Partners for World Health at (207) 774-5555 or by e-mail at info@partnersforworldhealth.org. We hope to have a medical supply donation drive on Islesboro with Partners for World Health in Summer 2026.
